Are You Fat?

Over a hundred years has past and nothing has changed. While looking through old newspapers and doing genealogy research I found this advertisement.  This is from a paper in 1905. You would think after all this time people wouldn't fall for this stuff anymore.

But we do.  All the weight loss adds I see on TV are a testament to that. I could stand to lose a little weight. I know the only way to do it is to eat right and exercise.

Maybe I should try these! Exercises for restoring beauty.  Sounds pretty good to me.

Then again there's plenty of gadgets to try.  Like I said some things never change.
What do think?

  1. Hi; I'm your newest follower; thanks so much for joining my new blog as well.
I chuckled a little at these vintage weight loss ads; I agree, some things never change, but I observed that they always seem directed at women....sigh. I'm not a male basher, I love men, but women will always feel a societal pressure to look a certain way. Even in the olden days they used to wear corsets so tight they'd pass out. It's hard to fight the pressures put on us to be perfect but I guess it starts with us; refusal to believe that we are not beautiful if we're not a size 2, and self acceptance and confidence.
    Have a great week!

    1. Hi Jenah,
Thanks for joining! It's true we all have to learn that beauty comes from within.

  2. Great adverts... and I always think it's so sad for us women to be so pre occupied with how we look when it's how we are inside which is important...Gail x
